“Howard [Hanzlick, the United Press correspondent] and I then began to prowl about the island, photographing as we went through the streets of the coconut-leafed huts of the nearby villa. The women, in the main, wore coconut-leafed skirts and nothing above. Some wore dresses, however. The younger girls wore skirts, in the main, though I did see one with only a lavalava skirt on. I photoed her after she bashfully lined up alongside a girl wearing a dress.”
